Dubai, UAE, Pergolas and Heat

Aluminium doesn't generate its own heat, but in a Dubai summer, it absorbs direct solar radiation so aggressively that it functions precisely like a massive overhead radiant heater.

In 40°C (104°F) ambient Dubai heat, direct solar radiation delivers roughly 900 to 1,000 Watts of energy per square meter onto exposed outdoor surfaces. How that energy turns into intense heat comes down to three physical factors:

1. Equivalent "Heater" Output

When solar radiation hits a dark or anthracite-grey powder-coated aluminium pergola, the metal absorbs roughly 70% to 80% of that energy.

Surface Temperature: While the air is 40°C, the surface of dark aluminium can easily reach 65°C to 80°C (150°F to 175°F).

Radiant Energy Output: A typical 3m × 4m (12 sq meters) pergola roof absorbing 700 W/m² absorbs around 8,400 Watts of heat. It re-radiates a substantial portion of that downward as long-wave infrared heat. Sitting underneath it radiates roughly 5,000 to 7,000 Watts (5–7 kW) of heat directly onto you — the exact equivalent of running 3 to 4 commercial outdoor electric patio heaters on maximum setting simultaneously.

This is why we recommend white colour and misting systems in order to keep you, your family safe and gain great value from your investment
